A PORTABLE BOILER ROOM FOR A LOCAL UNIVERSITY

A local university recently began experiencing issues with the hydronic heating systems in a number of their buildings on campus. Powerhouse was called in to both determine the cause, as well as provide the resulting required solution.

The Problem

After a review of the hydronic heating system was conducted, it was determined that the issue was due to the inability of the university’s current equipment to properly meet the energy demand of the system due to its insufficient capacity.

This presented two interesting problems for Powerhouse. First, the project required a high-output boiler to be installed in a location with limited space. Second, the close proximity to adjacent buildings meant that the output to internal HVAC systems in each building would need to be appropriately routed to avoid any internal environmental concerns.

Fortunately, Powerhouse had a number of scalable solutions available for the situation.

The Solution

The small size and sufficient capacity of the RL-50 Portable Boiler Room allowed for a simple delivery, install, and set-up within the small confines of the project space. Powerhouse was also able to successfully plan and install rental tappings, as well as valves internal to the building, to best direct output flow to the required areas in each building.

Due to the ease with which the initial installation was handled, the project expanded to include sending heat to another area on campus from the same portable boiler room source. The Powerhouse was able to accomplish the installation of an RP-500 Circulation Pump and proper valve operation.

The Results

Thanks to the multitude of custom solutions Powerhouse had available for both phases of the project, the university is still successfully utilizing the on-site portable boiler room to provide hot water for their buildings, as required.
